The Coen brothers crafted a beautiful, driven film that, unfortunately, packs little emotional punch. Exhibiting the most pathos isn't the stubborn, precocious Mattie Ross or pathetic, one-eyed Rooster Cogburn but the surprising, fallible Texas Ranger.
